Creative 3D Blaster GeForce2 GTS Just when you thought that graphics accelerators had reached a pinnacle with the GeForce256, the newest offering from the nVidia stable-the formidable Creative 3D Blaster GeForce2 GTS-takes 3D graphics performance to a new level. This card is a pure 3D accelerator without any additional ports for video in/out. 32 MB of SDRAM is distributed on both sides of the card with four chips per surface. Since it uses DDR (Double Data Rate) SDRAM, even though the RAM is clocked at 166 MHz, the effective speed of operation is doubled to 333 MHz, resulting in a bandwidth of 5.3 Gigabits/sec giving ample room for handling the detailed texture maps seen in most of todayÆs 3D intensive games. This GeForce2 GTS processor clocked 200 MHz-a significant increase from the 120 MHz of the GeForce256. It is capable of pumping out up to 1.6 billion texels per second making it about 3.3 times faster than the previous generation GeForce256. This graphics chip sports a quad-pixel pipeline (where four pixels can be processed per clock cycle). The difference lies in the fact that two textures can be processed per pixel unlike the single texture/pixel in the GeForce256. Others: |
